Elrac's Programming Wisdom

There are dozens of mathematicians working as programmers at my place of work. I ask myself, what's the use in studying mathematics if you're only going to become a programmer anyway? Math in and of itself is not very useful in getting a job. You want to become an insurance statistician?

I'll admit that my point of view is biased. I'm a Computer Scientist and a programmer; I don't work very hard and make good money anyway.

16, huh? Let me reveal some truths about college, then. College is where you start having sex, if you didn't before. If you do it with the right person (and probably even if not), you'll discover that sex is a lot more fun than studying. You'll be lucky to get D's, and barely satisfy the academic requirements for a broom-pushing job. That's if you're lucky. If you're not lucky, you'll have an accident and get the girl pregnant and you'll have to quit college to get a job which will pay for the child support she will sue you for. This is assuming you're not gay, otherwise there's little danger of this happening. So it won't really matter if you start to study math or computer science, your academic career will be a disaster in any case.

How do I know all this? Well, I've been there. Though I'm happy to say I was lucky (by my definition).
